Schools To Revert To Old Academic Calendar

Accra The Ministry of Education has directed all senior secondary schools (sss) to revert to the old academic year – September to June. This, it said, will bring harmony to the academic calendar of all schools and make teachers mark West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) scripts during holidays. Mr Kwabena Kyere, deputy minister of Education, gave the directive at the 45th anniversary Speech and Graduation Day of the Saint Thomas Aquinas Secondary School in Accra today. He noted that the present academic year which starts from January to December has hampered the smooth and efficient operation of the sss programme. Mr Kyere said government’s inability to finance education has compelled the ministry to develop the Community-Based School Concept so that communities will assist in school-related development programmes.
