Schools re-open after flood, fire disaster

The Ghana Education Service has served notice it is now safe for all schools to re-open after a flood hit the national capital, Accra last week.

At least 200 people lost their lives in a twin disaster – fire and flood – forcing authorities to close down schools for safety.

“Following our prior notice last Thursday that schools be closed till further notice, we wish to announce the return to normalcy and that all schools should be re-opened from Monday the 8th of June 2015,” a statement signed by the acting director general of the Ghana Education Service Jacob Kor said.

“We request full compliance and ask that heads of institutions remain on the alert for any further communication as and when we are advised by the Meteorological Department and NADMO.”
