Students in the Alavanyo-Nkonya area in the Volta Region appear to be bearing the brunt of the conflict in the two communities as schools have been closed.
Our reporter Komla Klutse, who was taken around the volatile border town of Nkonya Tahi by armoured car squadron, reports that pupils are home.
“If we are on break and playing sometimes you hear shootings so we are afraid to go to school,” said Ohene Dickson, a pupil of the St Andrews Junior High School in Alavanyo-Kpeme.
“At this moment we are not safe because we the SHS Two students have to carry our books to study in the home because we have a short time to go,” lamented a Form Two student of the Nkonya Senior High School.
Security has since been beefed up in the area that lies between Nkonya Tahi and Alavanyo Kpeme.
The latest violence in the area led to the death of two with one seriously injured.
Unconfirmed reports say sporadic shootings were heard in the area on Thursday.
