School puts up new classroom block at Nerebehi

Nerebehi (Ash), Dec 24, GNA — The Saint Joseph’s International School at Nerebehi is putting up an eight-classroom block at its new site at the cost of over 600 million cedis to accommodate the increasing enrolment.

More than 100 million cedis has so far been spent on a three-classroom block, an office and toilet facilities. Mrs Grace Opoku-Awuah, the proprietor of the school announced this at the school’s maiden speech and prize-giving day and fund-raising harvest in aid of the project at Nerebehi in the Atwima-Nwabiagya district last Friday.

She said the project was being financed through the school’s own resources and voluntary contributions from donors and other philanthropists.

Mr Eddy Obeng-Darko, the Atwima-Nwabiagya District Director of Education, acknowledged the enormous contributions of the private schools towards the provision of quality education delivery in the district.

He said apart from excellent academic output, the private schools have also offered admissions to many school-going age children in conformity with the government’s Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education (FCUBE).

He, however, cautioned them against the tendency of exploiting parents through exorbitant fees and other unapproved dues. Mr Obeng-Darko asked parents to take advantage of the government’s fee-free education policy and send their children who roam the communities to school.

He announced that out of the 21 districts in the Ashanti Region, the Atwima-Nwabiagya Education Directorate placed second in the last year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and also came seventh among the 138 districts nationwide. Nana Takyi Gyamera, Bantama-Nkokorahene, who presided, noted that the best legacy that a parent can bequeath to the child was quality education and urged parents to provide their children with their basic education needs.
