School manufactures dust free PC processor

Tema, March 11, GNA- Socio Economic Development Centre (SEDC), a computer training institute at Tema has introduced into the country, a new computer processor which is suitable for the Ghanaian environment. The name of the product is C900 Nehemia, and is dust free Extension hardware and it has a tropicalised main board, which is able to operate with only 12 watts of electricity.

Director of the Centre, Dr Kenneth Afari, said schools, which do not have air conditions in their computer laboratories could use the new technology because the processor which has dual fanning system is dust free.

He said the new C900 Nehemia processor is integrated and it can reduce the price of computer hardware to about 40 percent below the original cost of the use of the Pentium and Celeron Processors in computer technology.

“We have also introduced an improvement of our earlier tropicalised computers by incorporating removable and washable computer dust filter in our hardware design to enhance the long life of computers that are affected by dust”, he added.

The Minister for Communications, Mr Kan Dapaah, who inspected the equipment commended the centre for being so innovative and hoped this would help solve the problem of dust and lack of cooling systems for computers in some schools in the country.

He said the Government is taking the necessary steps to get many people in the urban and rural centres have access to computers and hoped that “with this new information age our country moves with other countries in the world”.

He said government is concerned about ensuring that computer training is given to children right from the basic level to enable them to become computer literates.

The Centre presented one computer and its processor to the Ministry of Communications for testing and a set of computer books for the library in Secondary schools.
