Bolgatanga, May 24, GNA- Payment of school fees at the basic level has been abolished in forty deprived districts throughout the country. The acting Bolgatanga Municipal Director of Education, Mr. Nicholas Nayembil announced this at a community youth education programme at Zaare, a suburb of Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region on Sunday.
Speaking on the theme ” Challenges of Education in Northern Ghana- the Way forward”, he said the fees and levies have been abolished in the selected districts as part of strategies under the Education Strategy Plan (ESP) aimed at making education more accessible by 2015.
Mr. Nayembil said most of the beneficiary districts are in the three Northern Regions, including the Bolgatanga, Bongo, and Builsa Districts in the Upper East Region.
He commended the Zaare Youth Action on Education (YAEZA) for trying to promote development of education in the area.
Mr. Nayembil, who is also the presiding member of the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly, advised the people to have during electioneering campaigns.
He urged the youth to take education seriously in order to better their lives in future.
