School Feeding: Gov’t spends 0.80 Pesewas on each child – Coordinator

National Coordinator of the School Feeding Programme, Mr. Patrick Acheampong, has revealed that government pays 0.80 pesewas per every school kid to the caterers.

He also mentioned that the programme uses farm produce from Ghanaian farmers in order to promote the private sector.

The programme also aims at ensuring the school children eat quality food and as well creating a platform for caterers to buy food stuffs at affordable prices.
In an interview with Ekuorba Gyasi on Atinka FM AM Drive Tuesday , Mr. Acheampong explained that the programme has become vibrant with massive enrollment.

The program which initially had an enrollment of about 452 school kids is currently feeding 5539 kids in mainly the remotest areas and deprived communities.

According to him, one of the factors that caused the authorities to speed up enrollment was that in some areas the school kids stopped their schooling and joined schools operating on school feeding.
