School denies press report of dismissal of pregnant students

Takoradi Feb.22 -GNA-Mrs Cecilia Harry Quaye, Principal of Holy Child College on Tuesday denied media reports that the school sacked four pregnant students last year.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Takoradi, she said students were suspended for less than one academic year. Mrs Quaye said all four students returned to the school, wrote their final examination and passed.

She said she used the case of the students at meeting of the school’s Parent-Teacher Association to advise parents against allowing their female children to marry while at school.

Mrs Quaye said the school has been recording cases of pregnant students but the incidence has declined due to intake of younger students and counselling.
