The Authorities of the Half-Assini Senior High School (HASCO) in Western Region have expressed disappointment over the abandonment of the Girls’ Dormitory project, for some years now.
They have, therefore, appealed to the Managements of Jomoro District Assembly and the District Education Directorate to investigate the circumstances leading to suspension of the project, shortly after its commencement about three years ago.
An assistant headmaster of the School, Mr. Elijah E. Nkrumah, made the appeal on behalf of the School’s Management Committee, on the occasion of the dedication and inauguration of an Ultra-Modern Lavatory for the female students.
The 10-seater Water Closet facility, valued at GH¢37,578 was funded by the School’s PTA and was unveiled and handed over to the school’s authority by the Very Reverend Samuel N. Appiah of St.Andrews Methodist Church, Half-Assini.
The facility replaces a seven-seater KVIP used by the girls, which has become unsafe and too expensive to maintain.
Mr. Nkrumah said the female-boarder population was 952, thus causing congestion in the existing Girls’ dormitory.
He said the contractor had since left site leaving some building materials, and he could not be reached by the school’s authorities.
According to the Assistant Headmaster, the situation had led to the conversion of six classrooms into a girls’ dormitory annex, a situation which was affecting academic work and needed to be addressed urgently.
Meanwhile, the Assembly has denied knowledge of the project and demanded details from the school authorities for the necessary action to be taken.
Mr. Abudu Amadu, District Coordinating Director, on Tuesday, expressed displeasure to GNA over some Central Government contracts, which were awarded outside the jurisdiction of their respective Assemblies.
He said the situation did not promote efficient and effective supervision in the system thus resulting in shoddy works by contractors.
