CREDIBLE INFORMATION GATHERED by this paper points to a scandalous level of financial impropriety in the procurement of books for the nation’s premier legal training institution, the Ghana Law School located at the busy Makola Market area, Accra.
At the centre of the controversy is the supply of books to the Ghana Law School’s library and the controversial circumstances under which an amount of 80 million cedis was reportedly paid in 1999 to Read Wide, a company owned by the current Director of the School, Mr Kwaku Ansa-Asare.
Information gathered by this paper suggests that the General Legal Council might have probed the issue and could be holding on tightly to the it issued on the scandal.
Though efforts to procure a copy of the reported Legal Council’s findings have so far failed, sources within the Judiciary say the report, which is believed to have been completed in 2001 catalogues a legacy of financial impropriety in the administration of the institution.
Information gleaned from students of the school also suggests a worry over the possible conflict of interest scenario in the supply of books by Read Wide.
