Savelugu (N/R) Aug. 15, GNA- The Savelugu/Nanton District Assembly

has for the second time, failed to endorse the president’s nominee for the post of District Chief Executive.

Alhaji Alhassan Yakubu, the president’s nominee obtained 29 of the 52 votes cast, representing 55.7 per cent in an election supervised by the Electoral Commission.

He therefore failed to get the two-thirds percentage required to confirm him as the Chief Executive. Voting would be held within a period of 10 days to give Alhaji Yakubu another chance. This is the second time the Assembly has rejected the president nominee; the first person being Mr. Abubakari Alhassan, alias red who was discarded twice by members. There was dead silence in the Assembly when Mr Sylvester Kanyi, Northern Regional Electoral Officer announced the results. Mr. Abdul-Karim Yakubu, Presiding Member, broke the silence when he declared: “The Assembly has spoken.”
