Savana Signatures to support 20 rural schools in Northern Region with ICT

About 20 rural schools in five districts of the Northern Region are to benefit from an Information Communication Technology (ICT) initiative to improve teaching and learning.

Currently two schools, Yoo Roman Catholic and Pong Tamale District Assembly Schools in the Savelugu Nanton District, have received theirs. Mr. John Stephen Agbenyo, Chief Executive Officer of Savana Signatures, said this when he handed over the facility to the schools.

He said the 18 schools would also receive theirs in the next four years. The schools were given seven new desktop computers, a projector and printer, while 20 teachers from the two schools were given training in basic computer.

The initiative dubbed “Integration of ICT’s in Education Project”, is being implemented by the Savana Signatures (SS), an NGO, with support from the Connect Consortium, Netherlands based NGO.

Mr. Agbenyo said the project sought to help reduce paper work by way of collecting, managing and digitizing students’ academic records and continuing assessment.

Mr. Andrew Akumbtum, Assistant Director in-charge of Administration at the Savelugu District Assembly, said the government was committed to implementing the one laptop per child project.

He said as part of efforts to encourage reading and improving performance, the Assembly in collaboration with the Ghana Library Board would soon provide mobile library service to the communities.

Madam Patricia Dumbah, Headmistress of the Yoo Roman Catholic School, thanked the Savana Signatures and its partners for the support.**
