Sarah Adwoa Safo appears before Appointments Committee – Highlights

As the vetting of Ministers resumed by Parliament’s Appointments Committee Monday March 27, Procurement Minister designate, Sarah Adwoa Safo made appearance before members of the committee to be grilled.

Adwoa Safo addressed issues regarding her portfolio particularly on concerns raised over the likelihood of a clash of roles with the Public Procurement Authority (PPA), the body already in place to deal with issues regarding procurement in the country.

According to her, the PPA will maintain its original responsibility of overseeing matters concerning procurement within public institutions as she, in her capacity as Minister will be an internal check within the government.

Touching on issues as regards sole-sourcing, the Procurement Minister-nominee assured Ghanaians that though sole sourcing will not be entirely scrapped by her office, it will be minimized and implored only when necessary and when it meets the required conditions.

Adwoa Safo was the first of four ministers-designate vetted by the Appointments Committee Monday in Parliament. Subsequently, Brian Acheampong, Minister of state-designate at the Presidency, Prof. Kwesi Yankah; Minister of State-designate for tertiary education, and Dr. Nura Gyeile; Minister of State-designate at the Ministry of Agriculture also took their turns before the committee.
