Sanitation offenders must be prosecuted – Rawlings

The former President of the Republic of Ghana, Jerry John Rawlings says the law enforcement agencies must enforce sanitation laws of the country by prosecuting persons who litter the environment to bring discipline and sanity in the society.

The former President said this Saturday when speaking as the Guest of Honour at the 4th Speech and Prize Giving Day organized by Mamfe Methodist Girls  Senior High School in the Eastern Region on the theme: “Discipline; a Prerequisite for Academic Excellence, Stakeholders Take”.

The former President inspired by the high level of environmental discipline exhibited by the school making its environment attractive and conducive for academic exercise, wondered why as a nation despite all the laws established, the country continues to grapple with serious sanitation challenges .

The former President expressed optimism that  government’s move to deal with the menace through law enforcement will bring sanity to the environment.

The Headmistress of the Mamfe Methodist Girls SHS, Ms. Sylvia Isabella Laryea catalogued the introduction of specialist teachers for students with a form of disability, monitoring and teaching tracker, academic exchange programs with foreign institutions, as some of the key initiatives that have improved academic laurels of the school.

According to her, this was reflective of feats such as the Most Improved School in  WASCE at the 2017 Eastern Region Best School Awards and other international recognition.

However, the Headmistress told Kasapa News in an interview that despite the feats, the school is facing infrastructural challenges and wants government’s intervention to help secure an ultramodern dinning Hall, assembly hall, kitchen and construction of roads in the school.
