As part of the assembly’s initiative to keep the Birim north District clean, the District Chief Executive Hon Antwi Hakeem Abdul has today 13th September organized a clean-up exercise in the district capital under the re-launch of the national sanitation day exercise.
Participants included staff of the Assembly, personnel from the various security agencies, assembly members, Chiefs, Residents and Traders. Participants swept the principal surroundings and distilled choked gutters at New Abirem Township.
The District Chief Executive, Hon. Antwi Hakeem Abdul, addressing the gathering after the exercise mentioned that, the Assembly will ensure it becomes a regular activity to be observed every month in order to promote proper sanitation district wide.
He thanked the gathering for taking part in the clean-up exercise and encouraged every resident of New Abirem to fully participate in subsequent exercises to help reduce the incidence of sanitation diseases such as cholera, malaria and other related illness.
Also the Gyaasehene for Abirem Nana Otibu Boahene praised the initiative and pleaded with the president to turn his attention to the market center at Abirem.
He also stated that he should provide employment for the youth in the district, she said the pragyia that they ride has been infiltrated by the Nigerians so he should turn his attention to them.
Finally the Queen mother at the Abirem market Nana Afia Fosuaa outlined some of the problems they have been facing.
She said the market needs fence wall to enhance security and also lightening system and also pavements to help keep the market dry during rains.
