Sammy Awuku drops defamation suit against Radio Gold, et. al

Deputy Communications Director of the main opposition New Patriotic Party, Sammy Awuku, has withdrawn a defamation suit he filed against some media houses in connection with the election petition hearing.

The media houses published an alleged leaked tape on which a voice purported to be that of Mr. Awuku was heard making unsavoury comments against the President of the nine member panel that heard the election petition case.

The voice is heard denigrating Justice William Atuguba and stopped short of accusing him of doing the bidding of the respondents in the case.

Mr. Awuku described the tape as “fabricated” and denied claims that he had had any such meeting and made the purported comments.

He issued a statement warning all media houses against publishing the contents of the tape or risk a legal suit.

The Ghanaian Lens newspaper, Radio Gold and a few other media outfits, however, called Mr. Awuku’s bluff and published the contents of the tape.

Mr. Awuku declined comments when XYZ News reached him to know why he had withdrawn the case.
