Salvation Army church day marked at Apam

Apam, July 5, GNA – The Salvation Army Church day was marked at Apam with a call on Christians to find out the purpose of their call into Christianity.

Ms Leah Addison Simpson, Secretary to the Apam branch of the church who made the call, said it was only when they knew why they were called that they could know how to answer the call.

Delivering a sermon on faith, Ms Simpson said the early Christians like Noah, Enoch, Abraham and Moses achieved greatness through their faith in God. She said they took risks without knowing where it would land them but because of their faith they did it without complaining.

Faith, Ms Simpson said, brings perseverance and perseverance brings success or victory. She said if Christians believed in Christ’s capabilities they would have nothing to fear in this world because he is the maker and giver of all good things.

Narrating the history of the church, Captain Godwin Kumeto, pastor of the church, said a British Methodist priest, The Rev William Booth, founded the church on July 2, 1865 in East London. He said the church was first called East London Christian Mission and was later changed to the Salvation Army church.

Capt. Kumeto said a citizen from Agona Dunkwa, Nana Amoako Attah, brought the church from London to Ghana in 1922, while a branch at Apam was established in 1924. He said the church was currently in 97 countries world wide, and that the first Sunday in July had been set aside for the celebration of the church’s day. The pastor paid glowing tribute to the founders of the church for their dedication and resilience and appealed to the youth to keep the torch burning.
