Saltpond Government Hospital presented with items

Saltpond (C/R), May 5, GNA – Mr J B Abaidoo-Abbam, Administrator of the Saltpond Government Hospital has appealed to husbands and parents to impress upon their wives and daughters to attend anti-natal clinic. He attributed maternal deaths at the hospital to failure to attend anti-natal clinic and said there were seven such deaths in 2003, 0ne in 2004 two so far this year.

The Hospital Administrator, who was speaking at the presentation of some items donated by the Centenary Hospital at Inglewood, California in the United States, appealed to individuals, groups and organisation to adopt the wards of the hospital. The items, which were donated through Nana Araba Otua, Queen mother of Mankessim for the Children’s Ward of the Saltpond Government Hospital on Wednesday, included 55 bed sheets, 53 bandages, 125 surgical gloves and a box of gauze.

Mr Samuel Sosi, Mfansteman District Director of the Ghana Health Service and Miss Margaret Minnah, Deputy Director of Nursing Services received the items on behalf of the hospital.

Mr Sosi described the items as relevant to the needs of the hospital, saying, some donations were not useful to the hospital. The Director said the Hospital authorities were planning an Open Day to highlight its needs for the public to know its problems. Nana Otua said the donation was part of the benefits of the Sister-City Pact between Mankessim and Inglewood signed early this year. She said better things were in the pipeline to enhance development of Mankessim and the Mfantseman District.

Mr Robert Quainoo-Arthur, District Chief Executive stressed that his involvement in the Sister-City Programme was to ensure the development of the district to improve the living condition of the people.
