Sales boy jailed 20 years for theft

Kumasi, Oct.27, GNA – A circuit court in Kumasi, on Wednesday sentenced a 24-year-old sales personnel to 20 years imprisonment with hard labour for stealing GH¢19,166.65 belonging to his employer. Collins Adjei pleaded not guilty to the offence .

Police Chief Inspector (Chief Insp) Comfort Baffour-Kyei told the court presided over by Justice Emmanuel Amoh-Yartey that the complainant, Madam Elizabeth Boadu, a businesswoman, who deals in building materials at Brofoyedru in Kumasi, employed the convict in January, this year.

Chief Insp Baffour-Kyei said on April 16, the complainant took stock of the shop and detected that Adjei had sold a quantity of the materials worth GH¢19,166.65, but ailed to account for the proceeds. The prosecution said Adjei, who was arrested at Ash Town, in Kumasi, admitted the offence in a caution statement.
