Salaries of Untrained teachers with Diploma being upgraded

Mr Lee Ocran, Minister of Education on Thursday said, salaries of Untrained Teachers with Diploma in Basic Education (UTTDBE) were being upgraded.

He however said there were few challenges that caused a delay in the process.

The Minister made the statement when he answered questions regarding the sector in Parliament.

Mr Ocran said since students had not been issued with certificates from the awarding institutions, the “IPPD” unit of the Ghana Education Service (GES) had to rely on certified results slips.

He explained that a lot of painstaking references had to be made usually with a master list and in some instances with the awarding institutions before the salaries of untrained teachers could be upgraded and these caused a lot of delay in the process.

Mr Ocran said salaries of UTTDBE teachers who passed out in 2009/2010 academic year would be upgraded as soon as their results slips were certified and confirmed by the awarding institutions.**
