Saint John Ambulance personnel receive first aid training

Sekondi, Oct. 23, GNA- Mr Emmanuel Papa Assan, Western Regional Youth Coordinator, on Tuesday said the preparation of the National Youth Policy is in its final stages and would be released by the end of the year.

He said this at the opening of a four-day, first aid training workshop for 30 members of the Saint John Ambulance in the region at Sekondi. Mr Assan said the policy would address critical areas such as the youth and crime, unemployment and HIV/AIDS. He said the policy would mandate the National Youth Council to monitor the activities of youth organisations. Mr Assan said volunteer youth organisations are not supposed to engage in chieftaincy and political matters and those who do so would be withdrawn.

He called on youth organisations to emulate the Saint John Ambulance and organise training programmes for their members to update their knowledge and skills. Mr Assan said he was happy that the spirit of volunteerism has been revived among the youth, and urged the participants to take the workshop seriously.

“You should comport yourselves and tolerate each other as well as being patient in the discharge of your duties”. Mr Victor Cofie, Head of the training team of the Saint John Ambulance, said the ambulance has embarked on training programmes for its members and volunteers in the country. The training courses are meant to equip the members and volunteers to effectively handle causalities in their communities, homes, churches and public places, he said. 23 Oct. 07
