Saint Augustine’s library and computer centre project starts

Agogo (Ash), March 20, GNA – A sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a library and a computer centre for the Agogo Saint Augustine’s Catholic Primary School estimated at the cost of 300 million cedis was on Saturday performed at Agogo in the Asante-Akim North District.

The facility would be financed through fund-raising ceremonies, individual contributions and support of corporate bodies and organisations.

Performing the ceremony Dr K. Frimpong Mensah, Director of the Institute of Renewable Natural Resources of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, said provision of a library was vital since it would help children to confine themselves to their books during their leisure time.

Dr Mensah, who is also the Adontenhene of Domeabra in the Agogo Traditional Area, emphasised the importance of education in the socio-economic development of the country and appealed to all stakeholders in education to support the project. Mr George Osei-Boamah, the Chairman of the Old Pupils Association of the Class One Group of 1966, said the association initiated the project.

He also said the facility would be named after Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, in appreciation of his efforts at promoting education by establishing the Otumfuo Education Endowment Fund to support needy and brilliant students.

Mr J.B.O. Twumasi, the Headteacher of the school, commended the 1966 Class One Year Group for embarking on the project and expressed the hope that its completion would enhance teaching and learning in the school.

He appealed to the Asante-Akim North District Assembly, churches, individuals and non-governmental organisations to assist in fencing the school to stop people from defecating on the compound.
