Sack Fulanis in two weeks – Upper West Akyem residents

Residents of some sixteen communities in the Upper West Akyem District of the Eastern Region have issued a two-week ultimatum to the District Chief Executive (DCE) of the area to drive away Fulani Herdsmen and over 300 cattle from the area.

He warned that they will be compelled to arm themselves in defence of the atrocious acts the herdsmen, if they fail to take action indicating that they have had enough of the nomads.PILOLOO BANNER-new

They are worried their cocoa farms continue to be destroyed by cattle of the herdsmen according Mr. Alfred Ogum who speaks for the communities, disclosing that some farmers who dared criticized the conduct of these Fulanis faced death threats.

The District Police Commander of the area, Superintendent Amankwa Tia confirmed to Koforidua-based Bryte Fm that his outfit has received complaints and petition from the affected communities and forwarded it to Asamankese Division and Regional Command for advice and expressed hope the matter would be resolved.

Superintendent Amankwa Tia however called on residents not to take the law into their own hands and visit violence on the Fulanis promising the matter will be resolved before the ultimatum day elapses.
