Sachet water cautioned against endangering public health

Cape Coast, July 9, GNA – Mr George Paintsil, the Central/Western Regional Zonal Officer of the Food and Drugs Board (FDB), has appealed to managements of food and water companies to formulate policies that would facilitate the setting up of good hygienic standards to ensure the safety of their products for consumers.

He said there was the need to ensure that such products are prepared and sold in a clean and tidy environment and warned that any company found to have exposed consumers to diseases would be blacklisted.

Mr Paintsil, who was speaking at a workshop organized by the FDB for manufacturers of sachet water and beverages in the Central Region, said employees of such companies must also be appropriately instructed and supervised in handling equipment used.

He said enforcing such policies would help companies produce good quality products to meet the standards of the FDB. Mr Albert Ankomah, of the zonal office, said the workers should also undergo periodic medical check-up and to make the medical certificates issued them available for inspection at all times. 09 July 09
