Rural Smile Foundation donates sanitary pads to school girls.

Rural Smile Foundation ;a newly established NGO headquartered in Ejura town and in the Ashanti Region of Ghana has brought a sigh of relief to girls in one school. As part of its first and official intervention after coming into being, the organization donated an appreciable number of sanitary pads to girls in a selected school and seeks to soon scale it to other schools in the municipality especially those in the most deprived areas.

The beneficiary school Haramain Sharafain Islamic Basic School located in the municipality of Ejura/Sekyeredumasi has a population of 478 with boys being 233 and girls being 245. In all 26 of the girls ranging from primary 6 to J.H.S 2 benefited from the donations, with every girl going home with two packs of the sanitary pad each. The donations was done by the Chief Executive Officer of the organization in the person of Mr.Abubakar Saddique Ahmed. Besides a practicing nurse by name Salamatu Ahmed helped in the donations on behalf of the organization and also used the opportunity to educate the girls on the proper usage as well as its disposal.

This whole gesture was part of the organization’s celebration of World Menstruation Management Day.The head teacher of the school Mr. Kareem Akambang was very thankful for the kind gesture from the organization. He did professed that, some girls do absent themselves during their menstrual period because the cannot purchase sanitary pads and thus make them lagging behind their male counter parts in class. He was however worried of the sustainability of this intervention and rather entreated parents to do well and address this menace.

The head teacher also used this opportunity to appeal for support from benevolent organizations or any philanthropists to help the school with sports equipment such as Volleyball,Basket ball and football to boost their sporting talents.

The Chief Executive Officer pledged more support but was haste to admonish on the girls to take their studies serious for education when acquired is an endless achievement.
