The East Ayawaso Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Thursday said the inability of the December 7 election to produce a president was a divine intervention to ensure that the country remained peaceful.
“It is therefore the wish of God that the election goes into the second round, so as to preserve the peace and tranquillity that the country is enjoying,” it said in a statement signed by Chief Inspector (Rtd) Alhaji Muhammad Alidu, former Propaganda and Publicity Secretary of the Constituency.
He congratulated the leadership, foot soldiers and members and supporters of the party for the hard work they exhibited before and during the December 7 elections and said since their efforts had not clinched the presidency for their flag bearer, there was a lot more work for them to do.
Chief Inspector Alidu, therefore, called on party supporters to work assiduously, irrespective of difficulties and frustrations that they might have gone through, to ensure that the party emerged victorious in the runoff on December 28.
It said the country’s democracy had come a long way and urged the electorate not to be manipulated by self-seeking politicians to do anything that could mar the runoff.
