Run-Off: Special voting ends

Accra, Dec. 23, GNA – The special voting by security personnel and allied officials including media personnel and electoral officials ended nationwide on Tuesday with minor administrative challenges encountered at some polling stations, especially in the Greater Accra Region. Mr Fiifi Addison, Presiding Officer at the Kaneshie Police Station Polling Station, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that some of the Police Officers made his work very difficult in the morning, “challenging every act, shouting and refusing to form an orderly queue”. He said some of the party agents failed to appreciate their roles, assuming responsibilities that were contrary to their mandated duties. Mr Addison appealed to party agents to adhere to their mandated role, while encouraging Presiding Officers and returning officers not to allow any individual or group of persons to usurp their position either at the polling station or coalition centres.

Mr William Amartefio, National Democratic Congress (NDC) polling agent, urged the officials to use the special voting as dress rehearsal to ensure that they undertook a thorough and methodical operation on December 28.

He called on the public to discard any notion of confusion during the December 28 runoff. Alhaji Issah Omar, polling agent of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), expressed reservation about the conduct of some Presiding Officers, accusing them of exhibiting dictatorial tendencies. When GNA visited the Odorkor Police Station, James Town Police Station and Cantonments Police Station, voting went on smoothly.
