Accra, Dec. 23, GNA – The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) on Tuesday urged the public to comport themselves to ensure that the country had a peaceful Presidential Election Runoff on Sunday. “As we approach the second round of elections, the CHRAJ takes the opportunity to remind all persons, organisations, institutions, the media and all citizens to comport themselves in a manner that will promote tolerance and understanding, which will assure us of peaceful elections and ultimately assist us in entrenching democratic principles in this country,” CHRAJ said in a statement signed by Ms. Anna Bossman, Acting Commissioner.
It said one could sense the expectancy and the good wishes of the entire world that Ghana should succeed. “But we must also desire to succeed and maintain the peace that we so cherish so that our nation and our people will prosper,” CHRAJ said. It stressed that the people had shown their desire and commitment for peace and stability in spite of their differences, pointing out that “the success of Ghana is the success of Africa, so let us not let ourselves down”.
CHRAJ advised the political parties and candidates to be gracious in victory and noble in acceptance of defeat “with the sure knowledge that in reaching across our differences and divergent views the Ghanaian people will be the ultimate winners and Ghana will continue on its success story”.
