Kumasi, Jan 11, GNA – The Royal Media Communications Institute, a private institution that trains journalists in broadcasting, was inaugurated in Kumasi, on Saturday.
The school was established about six months ago and offers three months training in media law, public relations, broadcasting, English, marketing and advertising.
Speaking at the ceremony, which coincided with the first passing out of 41 students, Alhaji Akwasi Yeboah, Kwabre District Chief Executive, reminded broadcasters that they owed the nation a duty by ensuring a peaceful elections this year through accurate reporting devoid of parochial interests.
He said as watchdogs of the society, journalists should not be swayed by partisan politics but should adhere to the code of ethics of the profession to ensure peace.
“You should not assume that the mere fact that you have the right to information gives you the mandate to go on air with sensitive national issues, which has the potential to derail the progress of the nation”.
Mr Richard Gyamfi, a lecturer in Media Law and English, called on the students to uphold the good training they had acquired wherever they found themselves to justify the time and money they spent on training.
