Row over electricity bill lands mason in trouble

Mamponteng (Ash), April 20, GNA- A magistrate court at Mamponteng in Ashanti Region on Wednesday sentenced Simon Appiah, a 38-year-old mason to a fine of 3.4 million cedis or in default six months imprisonment in hard labour.

The convict who was arrested from his hideout at Antoa in the Kwabre District on Tuesday, inflicted cutlass wounds on his co-tenant following a misunderstanding between the two over the payment of electricity bill.

Appiah pleaded guilty to causing unlawful harm.

Police Detective Sergeant De-Graft Armah Adjei told the court presided over by Mrs. Aliata Saeed that on March 23, this year, an argument ensued between the convict and the complainant, one Emmanuel Asare, who were all residents of Antoa, over the sharing of electricity bill.

Detective Sgt. Adjei said Appiah, who did not come to terms with the mode of sharing of the bill among the tenants, took the complainant to task for cheating them resulting in a quarrel between the complainant and the convict.

Detective Sgt. Adjei said in the course of the quarrel, the convict dashed into his room, took a cutlass and slashed the complainant on his head and also caused bruises on his body.

The prosecution said some neighbours who came to the rescue of the complainant rushed him to the hospital.
