Rotary Club commended for complementing Government’s development efforts

Tamale, Oct. 07, GNA – Alhaji Abubakar Saddique Boniface, Northern Regional Minister has commended Rotary Club International for complementing Government’s efforts to alleviate the plight of rural people through the provision of potable water, health and educational facilities.

He made the commendation when welcoming the District Governor of Rotary Clubs in West Africa, Mrs Laurence Kouassi from Yamoussoukro in La Cote d’Ivoire to his Office in Tamale on Thursday, as part of her working visit to Rotary Club of Tamale and to inspect the Club’s funded projects.

Alhaji Boniface declared Government’s support for the operations of the Club in the region, saying: “The Government alone cannot provide all the development projects to meet the aspiration of the people and therefore any assistance from development partners is welcome”. The Regional Minister briefed Mrs Kouassi on the security situation in the region and assured her that peace had returned to the area and therefore, Rotary International should feel free to continue with its development efforts.

Mrs Kouassi assured the Regional Minister that Rotary International would endeavour to support the Government to provide some of the basic needs of the rural people.

She mentioned education and health as the priority areas of the Club, with special emphasis on the provision of potable water for people in rural communities to eradicate Guinea worm and other water borne diseases.

The Club has provided furniture, polytanks and beds to the Savelugu Senior Secondary School in the Savelegu/Nanton District as a social responsibility. 07 Oct.05
