The Rotary Club of Accra-Ring Road Central, has embarked on an expansion programme of a three-unit classroom block estimated at $60,000 for a primary school at Asempaneye, a village in the Eastern Region.
The Club is expanding the building to include a six-classroom Junior High School, and has partnered groups including Rotary Clubs in Denmark, Holland, USA, and telecommunications company MTN Ghana, to undertake the expansion project.
A statement signed by Mr. Victor Asante, President of the Club in Accra on Thursday copied to Ghana News Agency said, the Club was motivated to help build a new school for the village due to the dilapidated nature of the existing building.
It said a borehole and a KVIP had been built on the school compound for the pupils.
“Rotary Service is not just about philanthropy or volunteerism, it is a means by which members truly engage with and contribute toward development of the communities within which we find ourselves,” the statement said.
The Club occasionally partners with CHORG, an NGO that provides medical team for medical outreach programmes and some pharmaceutical companies including Kinapharma, Starwin Ghana, J.M Addo and Sons; to organise medical outreach for the inhabitants of Asempaneye.
The statement said the Club is involved in making Asempaneye a better place to live, and have been engaged with the community leaders and people for the past four years.
“The people look forward to the yearly medical outreach programme, where they get the opportunity for free screening, diagnosis and follow-up medical care where necessary,” it said.**
