Robbers Attack Volunteers

Two British Volunteers, Jo Swainson and Jo Hermer, both 18, working with Veterinary Service were attacked by robbers. The two managed to save some Pounds 4,000 to enable them to come to the country to offer voluntary service to the Veterinary Service.

The volunteers had accompanied some friends to the main road, but lost their way back to the beach when the robbers attacked them. A gang of criminals has been operating around the beach for some time now and this location with its unique features is a favourite of tourists.

Narrating their ordeal to The Accra Mail, the volunteers explained that the incident occurred after they went to escort their colleagues who were leaving for Accra around 5pm. However they failed to trace their way back to a guesthouse called Big Milly’s situated along the beach where they were supposed to spend the night.

They then decided to seek the assistance of some men who unfortunately were criminals.

The volunteers lost a bag containing a credit card, a driver’s licence, an emergency medical assistance card, a student’s ID card, an unspecified amount of money and sun cream. But for the bruises they suffered from the ordeal, there was no major harm done to them physically. No report has yet been made to the Police.
