Robber sentenced to 30 years imprisonment

A Kumasi Circuit Court has sentenced a robber who attacked a trader at knife-point in her shop at Apeadu near the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to 30 years imprisonment in hard labour.

Isaac Tettey pleaded guilty to the crime. Police Chief Inspector Comfort Baffour-Kyei told the court presided over by Justice Emmanuel Amo-Yartey that the victim, Esther Frimpong, operates a shop at Apeadu.

On July 4, at about 1600 hours, she was in her shop when Tettey burst in, drew a knife and ordered her and the sister to surrender their monies and valuables or be killed.

Fearing for their lives, Esther, readily gave him her handbag containing an amount of GH¢12.00.

As Tettey attempted to escape, the victim raised the alarm, attracting people in the neighbourhood who gave him a chase, arrested and handed him over to the police.

He admitted the offence in his caution statement and pleaded for forgiveness.**
