Robber killed by Chinese small-scale miners

A 22-year-old man met his untimely death at Prestea when he was shot dead by Chinese small-scale miners at dawn last Friday.

Apparently, the deceased and two accomplices had attempted to rob the Chinese miners stationed at Himan, a mining community in Prestea Huni-Valley District of the Western Region.

The deceased, Kwame Atobrah was in a military uniform during the robbery attempt.

The Chinese small-scale miners have been residing in the mining community for some time now.

Oldman Sika Aquah, a neighbour who witnessed the incident, said the suspects stormed the area to rob the Chinese.

According to him, luck eluded the robbers when they met stiff opposition from the Chinese at the camp, and one of them was gunned down whilst the other two suspects took to their heels.

He said the body of the deceased has been deposited at the Prestea Government Hospital morgue.

The case is currently pending before the Prestea Huni Valley District Police Command.

Residents in the area have, meanwhile, appealed to the police to expedite action in apprehending the other two accomplices.
