Roads closed for Akufo-Addo’s investiture

The Ghana Police Service has announced the temporary closure of some roads in the capital ahead of the inauguration of President-elect Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Saturday 7 January.

The police service, in a statement signed by Police Director of Public Affairs Superintendent Cephas Arthur said the routes to be blocked at 4am on inauguration day include the 28th February Road at CEPS Headquarters Traffic Light and Salem Avenue Traffic Light.

Other roads to be closed are the Castle Road, Lokko Street at Osu Cemetery Traffic Light, Starlets 91 Road from the Ministries Traffic Light and the Castle Road from AU Circle.

Selected areas have been earmarked as parking lots for the ceremony. They are the forecourt of State House, the International Conference Centre, Intercontinental Bank car park, Accra Sports Stadium car park, the Ministries area, Afua Sutherland Children’s Park, the National Theatre, and the Accra Hearts of Oak car park.

The statement noted that only vehicles with assigned stickers would be allowed to pass through police checkpoints.

The closure is to enable the free flow of traffic for invited dignitaries who will be witnessing the swearing in ceremony of Nana Akufo-Addo at the Black Star Square.

The roads will be opened to traffic after the swearing in ceremony.
