Rise and Speak against increasing rate of drugs and substance abuse among the Youths – MCE urges

The Dormaa Central Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Dominic Adoma Ameyaw, has expressed grave concerns regarding the escalating incidence of drug and substance abuse among the youth. He has implored parents, church leaders, and other relevant stakeholders to unite and oppose this canker, with the aim of nurturing judicious young individuals for the future.

As part of his awareness campaign, he visited the Wesley Methodist Church, the Pentecost Church (Faith Assembly), and the Glorious Bible Church Missions, all located in Dormaa Ahenkro, on Sunday, July 20, 2025, to advocate against littering, teenage pregnancy, and substance abuse.

Addressing the congregants, the MCE observed that drug abuse is on the rise among the youth, leading to various forms of delinquent behavior, including robbery and other street crimes, hence there is an urgent need to denounce such practices. He advised the youth to refrain from these behaviors to pave the way for a brighter future. He emphasized that the world will not be destroyed by the bad ones but by the few good individuals who remain unconcerned for the bad ones to wreak havoc. Therefore, it is a call to action for parents and all relevant stakeholders to speak out against the increasing rate of drug abuse to safeguard the future.

The Municipal Chief Executive expressed concern regarding the escalating prevalence of multiple sexual partners among the youth, which has led to the proliferation of sexually transmitted infections and teenage pregnancies, often necessitating abortions and subsequently causing loss of lives and various health complications.

He implored the young individuals to capitalize on the free basic education policy and prioritize primary education, with the National Democratic Congress government covering the fees for first-year tertiary students, an admirable initiative aimed at ensuring universal access to education.

He again admonished the youth to seize the opportunity of the National Apprenticeship Program to enhance their skills, thereby empowering themselves to establish their own enterprises and secure a prosperous future.

Some members of the Glorious Bible Church Missions also voiced their concern regarding the inappropriate attire of some young women in Dormaa Ahenkro, who occasionally appear half naked in public. They believe this matter requires urgent intervention from the Municipal Chief Executive and traditional leaders to curb such objectionable conduct. They further suggested that such indecent dressing may contribute to the increasing prevalence of multiple sexual partners, a trend they deem unacceptable.
