The Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice Staff Association (CHRAJSA) was inaugurated in Accra last Friday. The Association aims primarily to promote the welfare of its members.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the National President of the Association, Mr. Timothy L. Ogum said workers union and associations were formed in direct response to the oftentimes acrimonious relationship between workers and management and the pressing need to foster cordial relations between them.
He said this cordial relationship based on cooperation is possible only where management shows due respect to workers’ associations and does not trample upon workers’ rights. He said it is unfortunate that in Ghana management has the tendency to regard workers’ associations as constituting parallel or rival authorities, troublemakers and agitators.
Mr. Benjamin Kwesi Oppong, Deputy Commissioner of CHRAJ said many organizations suffered set backs because of the communication gap between the management and staff. “The ideal position is that there must be information flow from management to staff and vice-versa.”
He asked the association to take up the responsibility of complementing the efforts of the management in solving problems confronting the Commission such as improving the conditions of service of staff of the Commission.
