The committee set up to investigate the alleged assault at Ridge Hospital has reported that there is no medical evidence to support claims that Rejoice Tsotso Bortei, a rotation nurse at the facility, suffered a shoulder dislocation during the incident.
The findings were presented to Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh on Wednesday, August 27.
Bortei, who earlier complained of wrist fractures and a shoulder dislocation, has since filed a civil suit against social media commentator Ralph Saint Williams. She is demanding GH₵7 million in damages for alleged assault and defamation.
Explaining the outcome of the probe, Committee Chair Dr. Lawrence Ofori-Boadu said the nurse reported her injuries on August 18, a day after the altercation. However, medical tests revealed “no evidence of fracture on her left wrist or dislocation of her right shoulder joint as documented by the medical records.”
The report noted that she was treated, given pain relief, and placed on rest, with additional psychological support to help with recovery.
In her lawsuit, Bortei maintains that Williams struck her with his fist and a metallic cellphone during an exchange at the hospital, and that she was further attacked by him and some of his associates.
She says she sustained injuries to her arm, shoulder, and waist, and continues to suffer from chest pains, headaches, and trauma, including panic attacks.
She also accuses Williams of later broadcasting a live video in which he called her a liar and alleged she fabricated her injuries to “cover the nonsense going on at the hospital.”
According to her, those remarks harmed her professional reputation and portrayed her as dishonest.
Aside from monetary compensation, Bortei is asking the court to order Williams to retract and apologise publicly, issue an injunction to stop him from repeating such comments, and prevent him from coming within 50 meters of her.
