Revenue Officer, Driver attacked by angry group

Kasoa (C/R), Dec. 10, GNA – A group of residents at Kasoa in the Central Region, allegedly attacked and brutally assaulted personnel of the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Assembly for performing their official duty. The victims are Mr Frank Agbesi Essah, the head of the revenue generating department of the District Assembly and Mr. John Quaison, a driver of the Assembly. The angry group also vandalized the public address system in the revenue collection van.

Mr. Solomon K. Abbam-Quaye the District Chief Executive, told the Ghana News Agency that Mr Essah and the driver went to Kasoa between 1600 hours and 1800 on Friday to give deadline to traders who are still using the old Kasoa market to quit the place by next Wednesday, December 13, or face the full force of the assembly. Mr Abbam-Quaye said reports that reached his office a few hours later after the two workers had left indicated that a group of angry people from Kasoa Zongo on hearing the message allegedly attacked and severely beat them up without any provocation.

Mr Abbam-Quaye said that the case has been referred to the Kasoa police for investigation to bring the criminals involved to book, adding that his administration would not tolerate any lawless activity from any quarter in the district. He said that nothing would deter the assembly from taking and implementing decisions that would promote peace, stability and progress of the district. Mr Abbam-Quaye has therefore, appealed to people in Kasoa, particularly individuals who want to take the law into their own hands to undermine the smooth administration of the district to turn over a new leaf or be prepared to face the full rigours of the law if caught.
