Revenue Collector fined

Nkawie (Ash), Nov. 9, GNA – Lovely Amenyo, a 35-year-old casual revenue collector at the Atwima District Assembly, has been fined 200,000 cedis by the Atwima District court at Nkawie for refusing to pay his special development levy of 15,000 cedis towards the construction of a borehole and a school building at Agogoso, where he resides. In default Amenyo would serve six months in prison sentence.

He pleaded guilty.

Mr Augustine Dubicker of the Atwima District Assembly who presented the facts of the case to the court at Nkawie, said the Agogoso community decided to drill a borehole and construct a school building. Following this, the entire community agreed on a 15,000 cedis special levy to be paid by every adult citizen of the community to finance the projects.

Amenyo, the court was told, failed to pay his special levy in spite of several demands from the local Unit Committee. His conduct was reported to the appropriate authorities and he was charged with the offence.

The court also issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Beatrice Adjei and Obiri Yeboah who failed to appear before it on that day.
