Rev. decries tribal discrimination in churches

Kumasi, May 29, GNA – The Most Reverend Robert Aboagye-Mensah, Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church of Ghana last Sunday, decried the whipping up of tribal sentiments in churches.

He noted that Jesus Christ, did not discriminate against mankind therefore, Christians should emulate Him, adding, “We are all one before God and should not discriminate against anyone.” Most Rev. Aboagye-Mensah was delivering the sermon at the dedication of Bantama Ebenezer chapel in Kumasi.

The chapel constructed at 5.5 billion cedis with a seating capacity of 2,400 was financed through charity and contributions from members. He advised Christians not to indulge in acts that would divide the church, but love one another to promote unity and development.

Most Rev. Aboagye-Mensah was optimistic that the chapel would assist in the church’s growth with the accommodation of more people. The Presiding Bishop, however, called on the congregation to commit resources towards the development of other projects to boost the church’s mission statement of meeting the physical needs of its members. The Right Reverend Nuh Ben Abubekr, Methodist Bishop of Kumasi, said the church had instituted a Development Fund to raise funds for its developmental programmes.

He called on members to contribute to the fund to help the church fulfil its objectives.

Rt-Rev. Abubekr expressed appreciation to members of the church for contributing immensely towards the completion of the chapel.
