Cape Coast, Aug. 24, – The Right Reverend Dr. Samuel Asante- Antwi, 60, was today inducted into office as the ninth President of the Conference of the Methodist Church of Ghana at a ceremony at Wesley Chapel, Cape Coast. The ceremony was conducted by Reverend Professor Emeritus Kwesi Dickson, immediate past president of the church. Reverend Asante-Antwi in turn inducted into office the vice- president, Mr. Timothy Osam Duodu, a 59-year-old regional chief economic planning officer of the Central Region Coordinating Council. Prayers were offered for the new president and the vice- president for the proper discharge of their duties by Right Reverend Thomas Wallace Koomson and Adama Stephens, both past presidents of the methodist conference. In a sermon, Professor Dickson described the induction service as historic, since it is the first time in the history of the church that the president and the vice-president have been inducted into office at one service. He reminded them that as light of the church they should shine for all to see, saying they should be committed to the work of Christ. Professor Dickson also urged members of the church and the clergy to work together. Among those present at the service were Mr J. A. Kufuor, NPP presidential flagbearer for the 1996 election, and Mr K.N. Arkaah, former vice-president. The induction ceremony is part of the activities of the week- long 36th annual conference of the church, which ends on Tuesday, August 26.
