Retiring officers advised

Accra, June 11, GNA – The Controller and Accountant General on Friday said that difficulties in pension claims were due to the fact that retiring officers did not follow laid down procedures and regulations stipulated for such claims.

The regulations required, for instance, that the processing of files of retiring employees must begin six months before their retirement.

A statement issued in Accra and signed by Mr John Prempeh, Controller and Accountant General said the guideline entitled; “Re-structured and rationalized processes for pensions and computation of civil/public servants on pensions CAP 30” first published in 1995 had been updated.

He said the serialization of pensions CAP 30 would be published in the dailies from Monday June 14, 2004.

The statement warned that ‘pension contractors’ and their agents would not be tolerated and that they would be arrested and prosecuted if caught.

It advised that no fees whatsoever were required at any stage in the processing of pension documents.
