Retired scientists form association

Fumesua, Dec. 2, GNA – Dr Victor Agyeman, the Director of the Forestry Research Institute of Ghana (FORIG), has given high marks to retired research scientists of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) for their contribution to scientific and technological development of the country.

The CSIR has over the years been at the forefront of the nation’s scientific and technological progress and this, he said, had been achieved through the hard work and dedication of research scientists and other supporting staff of the Council. Dr Agyeman gave the commendation at the inauguration of a permanent secretariat for CSIR Pensioners’ Association at the FORIG premises at Fumesua near Kumasi.

He said it was heart-warming that they had come together and expressed confidence that this would provide the platform for them to make further significant contributions to scientific development. Mr J Appiah-Kwarteng, the President of the Association, said formed in the year 2006 the membership is drawn from the Crop Research Institute (CRI), Soil Research Institute (SRI), Building and Road Research Institute (BRRI) and FORIG.

Their goal is to ensure that retired staff of CSRI enjoyed equitable and adequate retirement benefits. It is also to create a forum for them to interact with their colleagues and serving staff to enable them keep abreast of developments in their areas of interest and specialization. 02 Dec 10
