Retired officer congratulates IGP

Mr Muhammad Alidu, a Retired Chief Inspector of the Police service, has congratulated Mr Muhammed Alhassan, Inspector General of Police (IGP) on his new appointment.

In a press statement signed and copied to the Ghana News Agency on Thursday, Mr Alidu said the appointment of the new IGP is a clear indication of President Manama’s confidence in him.

Mr Alidu, also the Chairman of the Bassare Welfare Union, expressed the hope that the newly appointed IGP would surmount the challenges ahead of him and work assiduously to restore the lost image of the service.

He reminded the IGP of a housing project initiated by the former Inspector General of Police, Nana Owusu Nsiah, which has been neglected.

Mr Alidu said the project, which is within the precincts of the police headquarters, was to serve as an accommodation for personnel of the service on official duty from the other regions.

He appealed to the IGP to address some of the challenges affecting the police service, such as the lack of adequate accommodation to house the increasing number of policemen and women.

The retired inspector advised the new IGP to appeal to the government to provide funding for the completion of some abandoned barracks in the regions, to solve the acute accommodation problem facing personnel of the service.

He advised the IGP to seek assistance from some foreign diplomatic missions in the country to assist in the funding of such housing projects for the police.
