Retired Nurse remanded for causing abortion

Accra, June 15, GNA – A Circuit Court in Accra on Wednesday remanded into prison custody a retired Nurse charged with causing abortion and administering drugs to two women. The Nurse, Emmanuel Inkoom pleaded guilty and the court remanded him in custody to reappear on June 29 for sentencing. The facts as presented by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Abichab Boye are that at about 1100 hours on June 6, Police acting upon tip off, broke into a house at Teshie Krobo in Accra and found Inkoom with Doris Enyonam Dzameni, who was lying down naked and unconscious. The Prosecution said the Police also saw another woman Ms Mariama Musah, who was conscious.

When the Police searched the room, they found a quantity of drugs and medical instruments.

The Prosecution said during interrogation, Ms Musah told the Police that Inkoom gave her an injection to cause abortion. The Police rushed Ms Musah and Ms Dzameni to the Police Hospital, where the Doctors admitted Ms Dzameni. She also confirmed that Inkoom gave her an injection in order to cause abortion.
