Residents of Sekondi asked to keep environment clean

Mr. Jim Ainoo, Chairman of the Sekondi Sub-Metropolitan Assembly, on Tuesday, advised residents of the area to keep the environment, particularly the Sekondi market and lorry station, clean, to prevent flooding and outbreak of diseases.

He gave the advice at a stakeholders meeting organized by the Assembly Member for Asafo, Mr. Sampson Darko, at Sekondi.

The meeting was aimed at finding solutions to environmental problems, and to discuss the development of the area.

Mr. Ainoo cautioned the people against the dumping of refuse at unauthorized places, and said residents will now pay monthly bills to private waste management companies for the collection and disposal of their refuse.

He said ‘’this new arrangement, which is being implemented on a pilot basis in some areas of the metropolis, replaces the Pay as you dump’ system’’.

Mr. Darko urged people and households to register with private waste management companies operating in their areas in order to benefit from the programme.
