Residents of Kokroko displaced by water

Kokroko (B/A), Aug. 26, GNA – Underground water has collapsed 10 houses and displaced all 267 residents of Kokroko in the Techiman Municipality, a report has said. Twenty-five other houses are at risk and may also collapse. Mr Jibreel Kesse Labib, Techiman Municipal NADMO Co-ordinator who visited the area told the Ghana News Agency the estimated damage to property was GHC 26,200.

He said it was observed during the visit that the water was seeping from compounds and rooms and flowed to nearby communities. Mr Labib said all houses in the community were soaked with stagnant water and mud and recommended the re-location of the residents to avoid an epidemic.

Mr Labib said Nana Kwabena Asamoah Ababio, chief of the town, and Nana Afia Zinabu, the Queenmother, said there was land for the re-location of the residents. They appealed to Techiman Municipal Assembly, NADMO and the MP for Techiman North, Professor Christopher Ameyaw Akumfi, to support them with building materials.
