Residents of Awoshie-Kokroko, Chabaa and Awoshie-Mallam have appealed to the government to construct storm drains and bridges to relieve them of frequent flooding whenever it rains.
The residents made the appeal when Mr Justice Joe Appiah, the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North, in the company of some New Patriotic Party (NPP) executives, paid a working visit to those areas to acquaint themselves with the challenges facing the people.
Nii Kwatei Kwei, Gbawe Lafia Mantse, acted as spokesperson for the people.
He recounted how during the construction of the N1 Highway, he approached an engineer to consider the construction of a drain into the main storm drain at Awoshie-Kokroko, but he refused resulting in flooding whenever it rains.
Nii Kwatei Kwei also complained about lack of steps to residential areas, which are mostly low-lying onto the highway, pedestrian crossings and a fly-over endangering lives, especially of school children in about 10 schools who have to cross the road daily.
Signboards on the roads, he said were also not helpful to motorists since some were even deceptive.
Responding to their concerns, Mr Appiah said he would make representations on the floor of Parliament and to the Millennium Development Authority (MIDA) for the issues of the storm drains and dangers on the highway to be rectified. **
